Circulation

TIt is estimated that approximately 10% of newly born infants need help to begin breathing at birth, and approximately 1% need intensive resuscitative measures to restore cardiorespiratory function. The neonatal mortality rate in the United States and Canada has fallen from almost 20 per 1000 live births in the 1960s to the current rate of approximately 4 per 1000 live births. The inability of newly born infants to establish and sustain adequate or spontaneous respiration contributes significantly to these early deaths and to the burden of adverse neurodevelopmental outcome among survivors. Effective and timely resuscitation at birth could therefore improve neonatal outcomes further.

Rudolph, who taught us the art of neonatology and Dr. James Adams, who, in addition to being an educator extraordinaire, was singularly influential in developing the ‘BCM Neo Guidelines’ over the first 24 years.

Division of Neonatology All India Institute of Medical Sciences

There is actually plethora of information available in the form of books, internet resources, and CMEs amongst others in any field of medicine including neonatology. But the students, residents, practitioners, and other stakeholders still find themselves at loss looking for a reliable and up-to-date source of information on newborn health and there exists a space for a concise book that serves as a brief guide for holistic management of a newborn. 'AIIMS Protocols in Neonatology' attempts to fill that void. The manual certainly does not cover all the conditions that a healthcare provider might encounter in his day-to-day practice. But, this edition includes more conditions than the previous one, and we hope that future editions will cover the entire gamut of neonatal care.

Goverment of Western Autralian- King Edward Memorial Hospital

As the State’s only tertiary maternity and gynaecological hospital, and Western Australia’s only major referral centre for complex pregnancies, KEMH offers the highest standards of maternity, neonatal and gynaecological care.

Neonatal Care Clinical Guidelines

Given the large number of newborn babies born to mothers in Eswatini, combined with the limitation of resources, the Kingdom of Eswatini mobilized partners through the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with UNICEF and WHO, to systematically provide evidence-based, high-quality standards of care to ensure the health of newborns born in the country in an attempt to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. It is from this desire for better care for the babies of Eswatini that the first-ever Kingdom of Eswatini Neonatal Care Clinical Guidelines were developed. The guidelines are the collection of global best practices that are modified for the practical use by all healthcare workers and healthcare facilities in Eswatini. The guidelines also include a quick reference section for readily-available retrieval of important neonatal care instruction for healthcare workers in the field, in addition to guidance for a wide range of medical problems encountered by health professionals in the neonatal care facilities. The guidelines also assist in establishing criteria for admission, discharge, as well as referral and transport to higher, more intensive levels of care throughout the healthcare continuum in the country.
